H.O.M.E. and UIC provide classes for seniors

During March, the University of Illinois at Chicago held a four-week class on chronic diseases at Pat Crowley House. Residents of the Good Life Senior Residences learned about arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, and COPD.

Before each class, seniors were asked to take a pre-survey to measure what they already knew on the subject. After the class, they took a post-survey to see what information was gained.

During the classes, residents learned the following about each disease:

  • COPD7definitions
  • risks
  • prevention
  • treatment

In holding these educational sessions, the UIC students hope to create awareness among the residents.

If they know about the diseases and how to prevent them, they can increase their personal health and maintain their independence.

Good Life Senior Residences is an affordable senior living community that provides enhanced services and an intergenerational living experience.
