Housing Resident
Non-Discrimination Policy
Housing Opportunities and Maintenance for the Elderly (H.O.M.E.) does not exclude, deny benefits to, or otherwise discriminate against any person on the ground of race, color, ancestry, national origin, religion, sex (including sexual harassment), pregnancy, age (40 and over), order of protection status, marital status, sexual orientation, gender-related identity and expression, military status, unfavorable military discharge, disability, HIV status, arrest record, and familial status in admission to, participation in, or receipt of the services and benefits of any of its programs and activities or in employment therein, whether carried out by H.O.M.E. directly or through a contractor or any other entity with whom H.O.M.E. arranges to carry out its programs and activities.
It is the policy and practice of H.O.M.E. and its agents and employees not to engage in any type of retaliation or threatened retaliation against any individual for making a complaint, participating in an investigation or other proceeding involving a claim of discrimination or harassment, or for aiding or encouraging another individual to file, commence, or proceed with such a complaint.
It is the policy and practice of H.O.M.E. and its agents and employees to encourage the participation of persons with disabilities to the fullest extent possible in all of its programs, services, and activities. It is H.O.M.E. policy to provide “reasonable accommodations” to its rules, policies, practices, or services and “reasonable modifications” to an individual unit for all prospective and current tenants with disabilities who request them unless such accommodation would present an undue financial or administrative burden or make a fundamental alteration in the nature of its programs.
H.O.M.E. is committed to equal treatment and opportunity for its residents and the entire H.O.M.E. community and to maintaining an environment that is free of bias, prejudice, discrimination, and harassment. Prohibited discrimination, prohibited harassment, and retaliation undermine the character and purpose of H.O.M.E. and may violate the law. These actions will not be tolerated.
In case of questions concerning this policy, or in the event of a desire to file a complaint alleging violations of the above, please contact Gail Schechter, Executive Director of H.O.M.E. at info@HOMEseniors.org or call (773) 295-2711.
