Impact series: You gave Priscilla comfort.

Ms. Roberts-268253-edited"I've seen the beautiful work you've done!"

Priscilla is a 72 year old homeowner and lives on a fixed income.

"I live paycheck to paycheck - only my Social Security. I don't have savings. How can you save if everything goes to the last penny?"

When a pipe broke in her basement last year, she began calling repair services and contractors who quoted her thousands to complete the work. She knew she could never afford that.

Andre_repairsPriscilla doesn't recall who finally referred her to H.O.M.E.'s Upkeep & Repair program, but she remembers how she felt when she learned that she'd only pay $25 plus the cost of materials:

"I was shocked! I had been praying and praying for a solution. And that's when H.O.M.E. stepped in."

Our Home Repair Specialists went to her home and were able to repair her pipes.

Last week, volunteers visited Priscilla to help her weatherize her home. She reports that her house is much less drafty now!

"It was a beautiful result for me. I've told so many of my friends: there's help out there for us seniors."

How you can help

We rely on donations from individuals like you to help seniors maintain their independence by having the housing and support services they need.

This year H.O.M.E. has joined #ILGive to celebrate Giving Tuesday.

Will you mark your calendar for November 27, 2018 to give to make a big impact for seniors in 2019?

As a bonus, our board and staff have agreed to sing (beautifully) "Walking in a Winter Wonderland" in UGLY holiday sweaters at our annual holiday party if we reach our goal of $25,000. Watch the video here.

You can follow us on Facebook for updates, or sign up to be an #ILGive champion by fundraising for H.O.M.E.!

Or, donate today.

This post is part of our series to celebrate Giving Tuesday, which will take place this year on November 27, 2018. The idea behind #GivingTuesday is to kickoff the holiday-giving season, in the same way that Black Friday and Cyber Monday kickoff the holiday-shopping season.
