This is what our Moving Program meant to Manuel

If you've ever moved, you know that it can be very stressful. Just imagine, then, that you are an older adult who lives on a fixed income and needs to move to a more affordable home with services that better meet your needs.

Where would you start? How would you afford movers? Who would be there to help you? That's what Manuel faced, and here's how donors like you helped him navigate the moving process.
Though he lived in an affordable building, Manuel's rent had been rising steadily over the 10 years he was there. He couldn't afford it any more on his fixed income.

When the waiting list at Town Hall Apartments opened up, he was fourth in line on a cold winter day. Manuel (1)

Several months later, Manuel was so grateful when he was selected from the waiting list. But he was also very anxious.

Like many people in his shoes, Manuel was not only facing the obstacles of moving. After paying all of his bills each month, he only had $10 left. He didn't know how he'd pay for a moving company. He also doesn't have family or friends that could help him move.

Luckily, he found H.O.M.E. With donations from people like you, we helped Manuel navigate the stressful situation and our sliding scale fees helped him afford the moving costs.

Our Moving Coordinator, Judy, was there for him every step of the way.

Manuel lives with an anxiety disorder and moving was very stressful. He said, "When I first met Judy, I started to relax."

When Manuel entered his new apartment, he was so thrilled to be there that he kissed the ground.

Not only is Manuel's new apartment more affordable, he also has access to social services and activities that he didn't at his old apartment. He says, "I'm not in my apartment so much. It's a very friendly building."

He also has plans to start exercising again. He had stopped going to the "Y" a few years ago because he couldn't afford it. Now he can.

Moving has helped Manuel re-connect with the community. He's not alone anymore.

Our Moving Program relies on donations from individuals to provide people like Manuel with the support they need during a critical time in their lives. And here's the good news: Your gift to our Moving Program can go twice as this week!

During the Give65 event, the Home Instead Senior Care Foundation is offering matching gifts on donations made from July 10th through July 12th.

Manuel hopes that people will continue to support the Moving Program. He says, "Humans, we need a lot of support. I am not the only one, there are a lot of seniors like me who don't have anybody."

Will you consider making a special gift for Give65?
