A year working in Intergenerational Housing
I had a wonderful journey with H.O.M.E. this year. With sadness, I have to say goodbye to the residents and staff I had a pleasure to work with.
The agency’s programs are so unique I feel grateful that I have gotten to know each one a little better, and was part of it, especially the Good Life Senior Residences.
It’s been a year full of surprises, joy and experiences that are unforgettable--the outings to lunches, parties at Pat Crowley House or Natalie Salmon House, spectacular community nights with great food, drinks, cakes accompanied with singing and laughing while playing games, to name a few.
My favorite part was to listen to the needs of the residents and take care of them to the best of my abilities, whether by providing advice, help with the doctor’s appointment, scheduling fun activities, trainings or listening to how their day/weekend was.
On Mondays, it was a music to my ears when I heard that the weekend’s guest chefs scheduled to pay us a visit, made a wonderful meal and made everyone feel special. I know how much those moments mean to these residents; insignificant on the surface, so profound on the inside.
Getting to know the residents made me feel like I am a part of the family, and I do believe that they treated me like someone more than a House Coordinator, and more like a granddaughter that you turn to in need.
Personally, not having my immediate family here in the US, I could understand what it meant to be vulnerable and without someone you turn to in need, therefore, I was able to relate to the residents in that area, despite the age difference.
I also would like to give a huge shout-out to all my Resident Assistant helpers, Erika, Sarah, Jacob, Michael and Konrad! As well as our fantastic LaBrosse family that was always willing to pitch in last minute. I had a phenomenal team here at Pat Crowley House! You all make Intergenerational Housing the success that it is. We all worked diligently to create an atmosphere of warmth, care and love! I will miss everyone a ton!
There is certainly no place like H.O.M.E.! Thank you all!
