Special thanks to Raila & Associates

Raila & Associates gave a very special donation to H.O.M.E. for Giving Tuesday. Their gift of $5,000 helped us reach our goal of raising $20,000 for #ILGive.

Railia Thanks.pngAndrea Raila presented us with the check, which will help low-income seniors in Chicago maintain their independence.

Andrea has been involved with H.O.M.E. for many years. She first got connected to us through her friend Helen Zabielski, a retired school teacher. Andrea stood with Helen to help her preserve her independence during a difficult time.

When Helen faced difficulties maintaining the eight-unit apartment building where she lived since 1939, she ended up in court. To help find a solution, Andrea helped her find H.O.M.E.

In 2003, Helen donated the building to H.O.M.E. who agreed to renovate the building to be used in our Intergenerational Housing program, which is dedicated to helping seniors remain independent.

After renovations, Helen moved into one of the two bedroom units where she lived independently at no cost for several more years before moving to a nursing home.

The building, Helen’s legacy, is now known as Blackhawk Manor and is home to eight seniors and one family. We are grateful for Helen, and for Raila & Associates, for helping other independent seniors thrive in the community.

You can join us in our mission today.
