Energy efficiency at Nathalie Salmon House

Chicago's Building Energy Use Benchmarking Ordinance requires existing commercial, institutional, and residential buildings larger than 50,000 square feet to track whole-building energy use, report to the City annually, and verify data accuracy every three years. This ordinance includes H.O.M.E.'s five-story intergenerational residence Nathalie Salmon House.

To meet this requirement, H.O.M.E. sought the assistance of our friends at Elevate Energy.

Elevate Energy is a nonprofit that has over the last five years conducted energy audits and made energy improvements for all three of our three buildings. Their Chicago Benchmarking Compliace Services were equally as useful to us.

Last year, The Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County, Inc. (CEDA) also made over $250,000 worth of energy improvements at Nathalie Salmon House. All of these upgrades have resulted in energy efficiency and savings.

The Energy Benchmarking report found that Nathalie Salmon House had an outstanding performance last year. Out of 100, we had an ENERGY STAR score of 76 in 2015, and in 2016, it went up to 83!

This means the property is performing better than 83 percent of all multifamily properties benchmarked nationally.
