Renovations to begin at Nathalie Salmon House
H.O.M.E. to begin $1M renovation project to affordable senior building in Rogers Park

Nathalie Salmon House, owned and operated by H.O.M.E., will see major improvements that will bring extra life to this special building for seniors to live among people of all ages.
Chicago, IL - Housing Opportunities and Maintenance for the Elderly (H.O.M.E.) will begin a $1M renovation project in January at Nathalie Salmon House, 7320 North Sheridan Road. Nathalie Salmon was opened in May 1994 and provides studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments for low-income seniors, three families, and six Resident Assistants who are typically college-aged younger adults.
Nathalie Salmon House is home to over 40 seniors, including Joann who has lived in the building for many years. Joann found H.O.M.E. at a very vulnerable time in her life—she was living in her car and had found out that her cancer had returned. After moving into Nathalie Salmon House and undergoing treatments, things changed for Joann. She began volunteering at nursing homes and made good friends with her neighbors, ages 2 to 92. Now she says she’s a “get up and go-er.”
The intergenerational community at Nathalie Salmon House has brought joy to hundreds of seniors over the past 23 years. Joann says, “I love it here. This is the best place in the world.”
The renovation, the first since the building opened includes replacing all the kitchens and bathrooms, replacing all the common area flooring, and remodeling two commercial kitchens. The result will be an even more comfortable and enjoyable place for seniors to call home and remain part of their community.
H.O.M.E.’s founders, Michel and Lilo Salmon, opened Nathalie Salmon House in honor of their teenage daughter who was struck by a car on Sheridan Road. Their vision was to honor the memory of their daughter by creating a community where people of all ages lived and learned from one another. That vision continues today, and will grow with the improvements to the building.
Financing has been provided by a grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank Affordable Housing Program and a loan from MB Financial.
