Volunteers, you make our day!

Over the past severeal weeks we received a LOT of support from volunteers!

On Tuesday, Sept 20, we had the Pepsi Group coming to Nathalie Salmon House. As soon as they were there, it was ice cream time: they were setting up a sundae bar where our seniors could customize and order their very own ice cream bowl with a variety of delicious toppings (trust me, they were, I had a taste). On top of that, the Pepsi Group also offered a Bingo session with some compelling prizes: vouchers for Walgreens and Dunkin' Donuts. No questions asked, the seniors immediately joined in and had a good time playing Bingo and having ice cream. Thank you, Pepsi Group, for sharing your time with us and for making the day of many seniors.

Two days later, on Thursday, Sept 22, Nathalie Salmon House was blessed again with an enormous group of volunteers: The United Auto Workers! At around 9:00 am, the floors were filled with 50 motivated and very (!) organized volunteers. They were painting all halls and common areas on the first four floors of the building - yes, all of them. And yes, they were finished in about 1.5 hours. That was incredible! Not only did the United Auto Workers save us a lot of time and even more money, they also did a good job at painting. We from H.O.M.E. and our seniors can't thank you enough for this big project!

On Sunday, Sept 25, at the Glenwood Market, H.O.M.E. had a market stall, providing information for all the people who are interested in our organization. We even received some donations of items being sold at the market that were really appreciated.

Pat Crowley House, on the other hand, was thankful to have Anna as a Guest Chef again last weekend. She made us Vichyssoise, bacon wrapped dates, beef stuffed portabella mushrooms and sweet potato pie - I think the menu speaks for itself. As every week, we had lots of other volunteers at Pat Crowley House, too, they help take care of the residents and the house: Kornel, Chicago Cares, Loyola Nurses, Naphtali,... all of you are valuable for us.

That's it for now. Stay tuned and see you next week!
