Lately we have been reflecting on ways to develop and support H.O.M.E.'s Board of Directors. Our Board Affairs committee facilitated the development of tips for board recruitment, as well as profiles of "ideal" board candidates that would be a good fit for H.O.M.E.'s current needs. Expansion and diversification of our board is also a major theme in our current strategic planning process.
This activity has laid the groundwork for our participation in the University of Chicago Booth School of Business's Board Fellows Program. The Board Fellows program matches Chicago Booth MBA students with local non-profits in a symbiotic relationship. The program provides non-profit organizations with access to Chicago Booth talent and helps students prepare for future leadership roles by gaining first-hand insight into board meetings and activities.
Under the mentorship of Board Affairs committee chair Joel Rice, Booth fellows John Menze and Megan Beck will attend H.O.M.E. board meetings and committee meetings from March through December 2016. They will also complete a consulting project on board recruitment for H.O.M.E. during the spring quarter, culminating in a presentation to the board at an upcoming board meeting.

Meet the Board Fellows
John grew up in Charlotte, NC and attended Washington University in St. Louis. After graduation, he moved to Chicago and joined Deloitte Consulting where he focused on technology-driven supply chain innovations for a consumer product manufacturer. At Booth he’s focusing on finance, strategy, and management studies with the intention of working in corporate finance or returning to Deloitte after graduation. John says he can relate to H.O.M.E.'s mission because he is "the grandson of an independent senior." He was drawn to the Board Fellows program "as a way to start giving back to the Chicago community...and to gain experiences and skills that will help me to be a more effective board member in the future."
Megan came to Booth from California, where she studied industrial engineering at Stanford University. After completing her bachelor's degree, she worked for Accenture doing technology consulting in the healthcare space for before moving to Chicago to attend Booth last fall. Megan is focusing her studies on strategy, marketing, and analytics and plans to return to the tech sector after graduation.
