Older Americans Month: Seniors "Get into the Act" at Social (video)

May is Older Americans Month. The theme of this year’s celebration of older adults is “Get into the Act.” Throughout the month we are highlighting activities and personal stories from our Intergenerational Housing program and how it helps seniors stay active in their own lives and in the community.

Staying social and active is a big part of what makes our Intergenerational Housing program a wonderful place for seniors. Among the activities offered to residents are shopping trips, restaurant dining, art classes and periodic outings to museums and art galleries.

Last week, H.O.M.E. residents celebrated Spring at a social at Nathalie Salmon House, complete with games, snacks, music, and dancing! Watch the video below of the dance party:

H.O.M.E. provides intergenerational housing in three buildings where seniors either live in their own apartment, or in a shared space for residents who need some assistance with daily activities.

Senior and Resident Assistants at Annual DinnerIn our Intergenerational Housing program, seniors live in buildings not just with other seniors, but with families and students, too. This environment is great for those who wish to connect and share with other generations on a daily basis. Having opportunities for peer companionship helps eliminate feelings of loneliness and isolation.

Our houses provide a warm environment that enriches the total quality of life for our residents. Resident Assistants who work approximately 20 hours per week in exchange for full room and board play an important role in lives of our residents.
