Older Americans Month: National Council on Aging

National Council on Aging

Welcome to Housing Opportunities and Maintenance for the Elderly (H.O.M.E.’s) new blog, Senior Moments from H.O.M.E. We look forward to sharing glimpses of the lives of Chicago’s low-income seniors, helpful tips, and news you can use with posts every Monday. And we look forward to your feedback and comments!

For this inaugural post, we are proud to join the National Council on Aging and communities across the country in celebrating Older Americans Month. Each May, this celebration recognizes older Americans for their contributions and demonstrates our nation’s commitment to helping them stay healthy and active.

This year’s theme for Older Americans Month - "Safe Today. Healthy Tomorrow” – mirrors H.O.M.E.’s commitment to help older adults to protect themselves and remain active and independent for as long as possible.

While we provide services, support, and resources to older adults year-round, Older Americans Month offers an opportunity for us to provide specialized information around the important topic of injury prevention. This information will help older adults take control of their safety and live longer, healthier lives.

Throughout the month, we will be sharing tips on how to avoid the leading causes of injury and celebrating the older adults we serve in our residential buildings and the community at large. Follow H.O.M.E on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to join the conversation about safe todays and healthy tomorrows for all older adults.
