We seek compassionate live-in Resident Assistants

Who are we: 

Housing Opportunities and Maintenance for the Elderly, Inc. (H.O.M.E) fosters joy, independence, engagement and connection to low-income Chicago seniors by providing intergenerational housing, home repair services, moving assistance, and a Shopping Bus.

H.O.M.E is looking for an everyday hero – or, as we call them, Resident Assistant. 

Resident Assistant (RA) position:

H.O.M.E. seeks individuals who are compassionate, with outgoing personalities, who are interested in living in intentional communities. H.O.M.E. strives to build a community around all of its residents in its two intergenerational buildings. RAs pay a subsidized rent ranging from $250-$500/month (depending on whether they have a private room only, or a studio apartment). Rent includes a meals, utilities, WiFi, and some household supplies.

RA Responsibilities: Pat Crowley House, 1537 W. Rosemont, Chicago and Nathalie Salmon House, 7320 N. Sheridan, Chicago

Responsibilities consists mostly of serving or clearing up lunch or dinner on a weekend, and 1-2 holidays a year. The RA position is designed to allow the individual to work part-time or go to school outside of H.O.M.E. Duties include:

  • Cook or otherwise provide at least one lunch or dinner a week, on average, for about 8-12 residents.

  • Play a strong role in fostering an intergenerational community by participation in outings, activities, eating and socializing with residents.

  • Attend Resident Assistant meetings.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Basic cooking skills.

  • Valid driver’s license in good standing (preferred).

  • Experience working or volunteering with seniors a plus.

  • Willingness to work at least one year.
