A message from our new Program Director

Hello,

Tricia.jpgMy name is Tricia Mullin and I am writing to you, with nearly one month under my belt, as the new Program Director for H.O.M.E.  But who’s counting. I have had the pleasure of working with present and former H.O.M.E. staff over the years and felt their passion and commitment come alive. I look forward to contributing to the reputation that follows H.O.M.E.  and to meld my passion for older adults with those who work, volunteer and support all of H.O.M.E.’s endeavors.

I thought you might appreciate learning a bit about me. My affinity for older adults began through fond and close relationships with grandparents, great grandparents and older adults in my childhood neighborhood.  I studied gerontology, the study of aging, at both an undergraduate and graduate level, which led me to a career in the field of aging.

I was a Meals on Wheels and friendly visitor volunteer while in school. I moved from Toronto, Canada, (eh!) to begin my career in the aging field by overseeing homemaker programs for older adults. I later became involved with supportive living and a memory care assisted living buildings. Teaching gerontology at a local college and becoming a CARF accreditation surveyor were a couple of side jobs I picked up for a few years along the way.

Tricia_Ernest_Bus_Selfie.jpgMy current journey, besides joining the team at H.O.M.E, involves finishing my Master’s Degree in Social Work at Loyola University. I decided I needed a new challenge (apparently two with a new job) and to see what it felt like to be the oldest in the class. Funny, growing up I was always the oldest in my class because of the date of my birthday. Now I am one of the oldest because I love academia and love to learn.

I hope to instill my excitement for life-long learning, health, wellness and betterment with my colleagues here at H.O.M.E. and with those who use our programs and services. I suspect though, that this is already happening by what I’ve seen on the resident activity calendars and H.O.M.E.’s strategic plans.

I look forward to my new adventure with the team here at H.O.M.E. I welcome the opportunity to meet, hear and learn from you. Don’t be shy. Reach out to me and let’s have a chat!

Be well…be balanced

Tricia
