Meet H.O.M.E. Board Member Angie Marks
Angie Marks joined H.O.M.E.’s Board of Directors last fall. Angie is the Vice President of Real Estate at the Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives (CNI). She has worked at CNI since the organization launched seven years ago. Her work there focuses on high impact projects that revitalize neighborhoods.
When she was looking for an opportunity to serve on a nonprofit board, Pam Gecan and Stacy French Reynolds, who are good friends of both H.O.M.E. and Angie, suggested that she consider H.O.M.E. Our board members had just adopted a strategic plan that would utilize Angie’s professional skills, and so Pam and Stacy made an introduction.
Angie said, “I was very interested in the H.O.M.E. Board’s desire to look for opportunities to expand into the South and/or West side of Chicago. My entire career has been spent working in low-income neighborhoods in Chicago, particularly on the South Side, and I felt that the housing model offered by H.O.M.E. is very much needed in many South and West side communities.”
In the past several months, Angie has jumped in to serve on our Housing Expansion Taskforce which is focusing on our strategic goal of exploring opportunities to expand our intergenerational housing. Her insights and skill set have already proven to be an asset and we are proud to have her on our team.
At H.O.M.E.’s Celebration Dinner in April she particularly enjoyed the video that we shared. She said, “It gave me a great appreciation for how the services offered by H.O.M.E.—like the shopping bus and the moving services—are so vital and critical for low-income seniors.”
Angie’s work in developing neighborhoods has included the Mariano’s in Bronzeville; the Method Factory in Pullman; and the Whole Foods Distribution Center in Pullman. CNI was recently selected as a construction partner for the National Park Service, and she is leading their work to develop a new Visitor Center for the Pullman National Monument.
In her free time, Angie spends time with her family taking advantage of all the great cultural and recreational amenities that Chicago has to offer. They enjoy playing at Maggie Daley Park, taking in concerts at Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Millennium Park, and hiking at Morton Arboretum.
