Senior outing and volunteers at Nathalie Salmon House

Last Wednesday and Thursday, a volunteer group from Southwood Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Nebraska, came to Nathalie Salmon House (NSH) and helped out where they could. After finishing up some exterior painting, cleaning the food pantry as well as some individual senior apartments, the group hosted a Bingo game for the residents. Thank you very much for all your effort and the time you've spent with our residents!

On Saturday, guest chef Pooja dropped off delicious homemade Indian food at Pat Crowley House (PCH): Turkey meat balls, lentils and Garbanzo beans, all in a spicy sauce, as well as rice and Naan. The seniors loved the food, of course, and even though the cook couldn't stay they had a nice time together at the dinner table. The residents are looking forward to seeing the whole family again next time.

Three days later, Myra and Charlotte from PCH, together with Leslie and Marijo from NSH decided to take advantage of the sunny day and go to Osaka Garden, a japanese garden south of the Museum of Science and Industry. After a lot of confusion about where to enter the garden and after plenty of driving around, the seniors decided to go to the Oriental Institute instead. Together with Emily, H.O.M.E.'s summer intern, the residents got to see many Middle Eastern collections, from Egyptian jewelry to the museum's flagship: the human-headed winged bull. As a treat for the long-lasting car journey, and because the weather was so nice, everyone got some ice cream at McDonald's afterwards.
