A busy Valentine's Day
Many people celebrate Valentine's Day as a day of love and friendship. At the Good Life Senior Residence Pat Crowley House (PCH), it was more like the Volunteers' Day:
In the morning, our valued donor and friend of H.O.M.E., Kornel, came to start renovating an empty apartment within the house. While you could hear it hammering from upstairs, where he was working, the Loyola nurses were arriving downstairs to visit and check on the residents.
A short time later, with the nurses spreading out, chattering, and Kornel hammering, a video team from PACTT came to shoot scenes of Naphtalie volunteering. He's an autistic young man, who comes regularly to the Pat Crowley House for some cleaning work and to water the plants. For more information about PACTT and the video, which will be available soon, please check out their website!
At lunch time, the seniors have received nice, self-made Valentine's cards, provided by volunteers from the H.O.M.E.'s Young Professionals Board and guests at their recent event.
In the afternoon, after a house tour for a senior who was interested in our intergenerational housing program, and after a surprise food inspection, the Search Inc. volunteer group that volunteered last week helped us out again, by organizing the food pantry and cleaning things up in the basement.
The next day, Christine, one of the seniors from Pat Crowley House, was glad to have Vincent come again. He is a personal trainer who's volunteering with H.O.M.E. since a long time. From his knowledge and advise, the residents get motivated and pushed with some weight training in order to improve their overall well-being and health.
Thank you very much to all the volunteers! You were helping us out so much these days - we are happy about every help we can get.
