MLK Day, A Day of Service
Every year, as the third Monday in January approaches we are reminded of the lessons that Dr. Martin Luther King taught us. Dr. King was a leader, an activist and, a servant so it is fitting that Martin Luther King Day is a national day of service.

Here are 4 things Dr. King Said about service :
1. "Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals."
2. “No work is insignificant. All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.”
3. "Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve.... You don't have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love."
4. "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?"
Today, volunteers around the country are hard at work to help others and improve communities. As a pioneer in intergenerational programming, H.O.M.E. knows that connecting people of all ages helps people of different generations understand each other better and creates stronger communities. This is particularly relevant today as we celebrate Martin Luther King Day.
From the guest chefs that prepare dinners, to those that craft with seniors, to groups big and small weatherizing homes of seniors in the community, our volunteers make a huge difference and we are so thankful for their service!
