Say "Cheese": H.O.M.E. brings smiles to seniors' faces

former_resident.jpgH.O.M.E. has been bringing smiles to seniors' faces for a very long time.

For over 30 years, H.O.M.E. has been committed to helping seniors in Chicago maintain independent and enriched lives within their communities. We provide essential housing and housing support services to low-income elders in Chicago in a way that looks beyond just the immediate needs that they are facing.

You can read about the impact of our work on our website. But often, it's hearing the stories and seeing the faces of those we serve that show us why we do this every day. The joy that we see is undeniable.

Below are some of our favorite photos of our clients, staff, and volunteers. Join us on a trip down memory lane. If these photos look familiar to you, we'd love to know more about the people and events they capture. Feel free to leave a comment!

Our then shopping bus driver helps a senior as she exits the bus to go grocery shopping in 2001. Today our driver still helps each senior on and off the bus, as well as helping them to get their groceries back into their building.

Paula_Basta_with_senior.jpgA young social worker named Paula Basta worked with H.O.M.E. in the early days of the organization. She is seen here helping a senior to exit a building. Paula would later serve as the Executive Director for H.O.M.E. You can see what Paula has to say about H.O.M.E. today in our video.

H.O.M.E.'s co-founder talks with a senior in his home. Michel and Lilo Salmon met at Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, which Michel had helped establish in Chicago. They founded H.O.M.E. when they realized the immense need for affordable housing for seniors in Chicago.
