Celebrating Sweet H.O.M.E. Chicago

On Thursday, April 28th nearly 300 H.O.M.E. supporters came together to celebrate H.O.M.E. at our Annual Celebration Dinner!

Guests enjoyed dinner and an evening of connecting with other supporters at Germania Place, a beautiful, historic venue in Downtown Chicago. We were honored to have as our MC for the night Robyn Golden,  the Director of Health and Aging at Rush University Medical Center! Robyn is a well-respected figure in the aging field, and was a H.O.M.E. honoree last year. She brought a great energy to the evening. 

Attendees enjoyed a Wine Grab and Silent Auction (sponsored by our Young Professionals Board) --top winners won trips to Florida, Cubs tickets, and custom art and jewelry. Other winners won opportunities to engage with H.O.M.E. by having dinner with our seniors or taking a tour at one of our buildings.

After dinner, attendees heard more about the H.O.M.E. family and the work that we do. During the program we premiered the video from our Philanthropy Award for Human Services-Social Services from the Make It Better Foundation! Cheers, tears, and laughter were heard throughout the Germania Place ballroom, especially when Joann told them that H.O.M.E. helps seniors "kick it like seniors should kick it." Watch the video now!

 

We also honored individuals and organizations who embody the
spirit of H.O.M.E.: 

• Memoona Hasnain, University of Illinois at Chicago - For seven years, Dr. Hasnain has been instrumental in bringing interdisciplinary healthcare students and professionals from the University of Illinois at Chicago to work with seniors who live in H.O.M.E.'s intergenerational houses. Students from schools of medicine, pharmacy, public health, and more have been paired with seniors to create personal health goals as well as to participate in health education programs.
• Saint Clement Church - Parishioners from Saint Clements Church have joined H.O.M.E. in its mission to help low-income seniors in Chicago maintain their independence for at least 20 years. The Church has given of its time, treasure, and talent over the years and are an important part of the H.O.M.E. community.
• Oak Street Health - Over the past few years, Oak Street Health's clinic in Edgewater has been a wonderful resource to seniors living at Pat Crowley and Nathalie Salmon Houses. As a primary care clinic focused on older adults, they have a unique approach and services that have been vital to our residents. They have given monthly presentations on various health topics at our buildings.

Last but not least we honored H.O.M.E.'s very own Caren Arden Tabani! Caren has worked for H.O.M.E. for 25 years. In those years, she raised her family at Pat Crowley House alongside people of all generations. Seniors who live with us have referred to her as a daughter, a sister, and as "the boss" (in fact, at one point during her tenure, she was the interim Executive Director). We are thankful for Caren's expertise in caring for older adults, her resilience, and her passion for H.O.M.E.'s mission.

Together, as a community of H.O.M.E. supporters, we raised over $80,000!
