National Volunteer Month: H.O.M.E. seniors love their volunteers

April is National Volunteer Month, and we've been celebrating all month!

Over on Facebook and Twitter, during National Volunteer Week, we spotlighted some of our volunteers - a few from many years past, and one of whom has been working with our Service Repair Specialists for three years.

But the truth is, we love our volunteers all year round. And, our volunteers and seniors love each other, too!

Recently, Vince was introduced to H.O.M.E. by a friend and H.O.M.E. staff member. Vince is a physical trainer who has a specialty in helping older adults get and stay fit. Working with seniors in Good Life Senior Residences seemed like a perfect fit.

Vince was introduced to the seniors at Pat Crowley House, and trained them on using the exercise equipment at their home. He had a good rapport with them and thought they were very interested in learning more. So he planned another visit.

Little did Vince know just how much the residents enjoyed his company!

The residents heard that the next planned visit would also be on Vince's birthday. They planned a little surprise for him on his return.

Vince was blown away by the thoughtfulness of these elders he had only met once before. As he stated in his Facebook post, "[they were] already giving me great rewards and wisdom and then this!!! I have so much fun......."

Do you have a special talent you'd like to share? Perhaps you'd like to do some gardening, or get a group together for painting this summer? There are lots of ways to get involved. We invite you to explore the options, and join us!
