Summer means H.O.M.E. and the Glenwood Sunday Market are together again
Again this summer, H.O.M.E. is proud to be a Food Access Partner of the Glenwood Sunday Market!
In 2014 we joined the Market’s Food Access Program along with other neighborhood organizations, including A Just Harvest, Community Feast of United Church of Rogers Park, Food Not Bombs, and St. Ignatius Food Pantry. We look forward to greeting our Rogers Park neighbors at the Market and to reconnecting with the Market’s vendors and farmers.
The Glenwood Sunday Market was established in June 2010 with a mission to bring farmers to Rogers Park so the community can enjoy local, sustainably produced food and goods in a friendly and festive urban neighborhood street market. Located next to the Morse Avenue stop on the CTA’s Red Line, the Market operates every Sunday from 9 am to 2 pm from June through October (as well as monthly indoors during the winter months.) The Market is a program of the Rogers Park Business Alliance and enjoys:
- an average weekly shopping audience of more than 1500 customers
- an active community of more than 100 volunteers
- a devoted Leadership Council and Junior Board
- a growing Market For All matching fund program for our neighbors in need
- and one of the most “green” operations in the City of Chicago
As a Rogers Park resident, I am a loyal Market goer. I love meeting the farmers and other vendors and I love making delicious, seasonal dishes for my family with my market purchases. I also love all that the Market does to give back to the community.
The Glenwood Sunday Market invites local food pantries, shelters and other nonprofit partners to reach out to the robust community at the Market, and H.O.M.E. is pleased to participate again this year.
On Sunday, July 12, H.O.M.E. will make its first 2015 appearance at the Market as staff, residents and volunteers will greet market customers while answering questions and distributing information about H.O.M.E.
Last year, Housing Coordinator Caren Arden-Tabani said that she and residents Charlotte, Christine, and Judy “had a wonderful afternoon people watching and talking to various vendors.” The generous spirit of Rogers Park shone through in the donations of beautiful produce and meat we received from shoppers and vendors alike. Those donations were used for meals for our shared living residents at Pat Crowley House and the Nathalie Salmon House, as will any donations received this year.
H.O.M.E. will be at the Glenwood Sunday Market on July 12, August 23, and September 27. Come meet some of our staff, volunteers and residents - and enjoy the bounty of the Market, too!
The Glenwood Sunday Market is located in Rogers Park on Glenwood Avenue between Morse and Lunt.
We hope to see you at the Market this summer! And if you do and would like my favorite kale recipes, follow the link below.
