Inspire Your Heart with Art Day is this Saturday
“Youth is the gift of nature, but age is a work of art” - Stanislaw Jerzy Lec
As we look forward to Inspire Your Heart with Art Day on January 31, we are inspired by Paint the Town Red, a twice-monthly art activity at Pat Crowley House. Volunteers from Chicago Cares donate their time, talents and art supplies to our resident artists – and the results can be seen throughout the house!
Christine’s first Paint the Town Red project was the nameplate for her door. “There is nothing like holding something in your hands and saying, ‘I made that’”, Christine says. She adds that art gives her a sense of “child-like joy” and allows her to look to the future.
Recently, the Paint the Town Red group looked forward to 2015 by creating Happy New Year hats and inspirational posters. Other projects have included masks for Mardi Gras and Halloween and “prosperity boxes”. Caren Arden-Tabani, coordinator at Pat Crowley House, notes that she is pleasantly surprised and impressed by the creative projects the residents produce.
Caren and the residents all sing the praises of the Chicago Cares volunteers. Caren describes them as “wonderful, kind, compassionate, generous and, of course, creative.” Judy treasures her “invaluable” experiences with “these fine young people [who are] happy and so gifted.”
Do you have a hobby or talent you would like to share with H.O.M.E.’s residents?
