9 MLK Quotes that Inspire Us to Dream

You_can_make_a difference_(1)Every year, as the third Monday in January approaches we are reminded of the lessons that Dr. Martin Luther King taught us. Dr. King was a leader, an activist and a servant. As we reflect on the impact that Dr. King has had on our nation though his lasting legacy, here are Dr. King 9 quotes that inspire us to dream and make an impact in our communities:

  • “We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.”
  • “I'm concerned about a better world. I'm concerned about justice; I'm concerned about brotherhood; I'm concerned about truth. And when one is concerned about that, he can never advocate violence. For through violence you may murder a murderer, but you can't murder murder. Through violence you may murder a liar, but you can't establish truth. Through violence you may murder a hater, but you can't murder hate through violence. Darkness cannot put out darkness; only light can do that.”
  • “Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
  • “People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don't know each other; they don't know each other because they have not communicated with each other.”
  • “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
  • “Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle.”
  • “No work is insignificant. All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.”
  • “It really boils down to this: that all life is interrelated. We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tired into a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one destiny, affects all indirectly.”
  • And my personal favorite: "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"

Today, Martin Luther King Day has become a "Day On" instead of a day off. Each year, Americans across the country, inspired by Dr. King's life, come together to serve their neighbors and communities.   To learn more about what sparked this idea of the MLK Day of Service check out this video!
