Lois
Lois radiates warmth and wisdom. After fulfilling careers as a nanny and a teacher’s aide, Lois made a new home at Elizabeth Woods, a senior residence in Chicago, where she lives with her cat Willow.
An eager, regular rider of H.O.M.E.’s shopping bus, Lois relishes trips to the local Jewel-Osco with the community of friends she has made.
"It’s very nice," Lois shares, "I go shopping myself, but I like the bus because it gives me a chance to be with other people."
Serving more than 30 senior apartment buildings in Chicago, H.O.M.E.’s shopping bus not only connects older adults with the groceries, medications, and household goods they need, but also provides important opportunities to socialize. Key to this is Ernest Dixon, H.O.M.E.’s beloved transportation coordinator, driver, and friend to everyone who rides the shopping bus.
“Oh he is a lifesaver. Without him, we wouldn’t be able to get all the things we need.”
Lois treasures her independence and her quiet time with Willow. She also treasures her trips on the shopping bus, where camaraderie and lively conversation are always part of the trip.
