Missy
Last fall, Missy was facing upheaval. For much of her life, she had lived with her mother, who was now in need of nursing care.
After making the difficult decision to move her mother to a memory-care facility, Missy had to figure out where she would live, as she could no longer afford the apartment she and her mom had shared. Thanks to a family friend, she learned about H.O.M.E.’s Good Life Senior Residences: affordable housing where low-income seniors live in community with younger resident assistants and families with children.
Missy was drawn to the idea of communal living at H.O.M.E.’s Pat Crowley House because “it was more of a home setting” where she could make friends.
“H.O.M.E. reverses our country’s trend toward isolation,” says Chris Taraszka, Pat Crowley House Manager. “We make sure seniors are part of society and welcomed.”
After moving into Pat Crowley House, Missy quickly settled into her new life involving new friends, activities, and outings. She also made weekly visits to the memory-care facility for several months, and she has been weathering her mother’s recent passing with the help of her new community of friends at H.O.M.E.
Missy is at home at Pat Crowley House – partly because of the physical comforts of her bedroom, the meals, and the cozy living spaces, but mostly because she feels “comfortable, welcomed, and liked.”
