Be More Philanthropic: 9 Ways to Give Back in 2016
'Tis the season for New Years Resolutions. One common resolution I hear among my family and friends is that they are looking to give back and be more charitable. Fortunately, unlike many other resolutions, that is a pretty easy resolution to stick to and accomplish.
Are you looking for opportunities to give back and helping seniors in Chicago ? Look no further!
Getting involved is easy! Here are some ways that you can get involved with H.O.M.E. in 2016:
Share a Meal with Seniors
Be a Guest Chef on the weekend at the Nathalie Salmon House or the Pat Crowley House. You and a group of friends can provide a meal and activity for seniors who live in our Good Life Senior Residences.
Help Seniors in the Community
You can help low-income senior homeowners living Chicago; south of North Avenue prepare their homes for the harsh winter months by sealing their windows. It's easy and no experience is necessary. It is a great activity for friends, corporate groups, teen youth or athletic groups, or other small groups!
During the summer we need volunteer groups to assist senior homeowners by painting rooms in their home.
Shop
Believe it or not you can be more philanthropic by shopping. One way of doing this is by shopping on Amazon Smile . All you need to do is select H.O.M.E. as your charitable organization to receive donations from eligible purchases before you begin shopping. AmazonSmile will remember your selection, and then every eligible purchase you make on AmazonSmile will result in a donation to H.O.M.E.You can also shop at the Make it Better Shop for Good. 10% of purchases go their Philanthropic Award Winners (Of which H.O.M.E. is one!).
Join Us for The Hunger Walk
The Hunger Walk is a 5K Walk sponsored by the Greater Chicago Food Depository. H.O.M.E. has a special partnership with the GCFD that helps us to feed seniors who live at Nathalie Salmon and Pat Crowley Houses. For each person that walks in support of H.O.M.E., we will receive a credit in our account at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. All funds raised by walkers add credits to our account. These credits help us to greatly reduce our food costs at our Good Life Senior Residences.
Join us to help H.O.M.E. and be a part of the movement to stop hunger in Chicago! Be on the look out in early June for more details.
Attend our Annual Celebration Dinner
Last year nearly 300 H.O.M.E. supporters came together to celebrate H.O.M.E. at our Annual Celebration Dinner. Our Annual Celebration Dinner is an annual event put on by our Young Professionals Board and Board of Directors. It is the one time each year that our volunteers, donors, staff, and clients come together to celebrate the work that we do. It's a great opportunity to meet and network with other individuals that share a passion for helping seniors.
Looking to join us this year? Save the date for April 28, 2016!
Get involved with our Young Professionals Board
Our Young Professionals Board is a group of Chicago area young professionals who promote the mission of H.O.M.E. and create the next generation of leaders who will raise awareness of the issues facing older adults and provide support for H.O.M.E. through volunteer, social, and fundraising activities.

This holiday season, you can change the lives of Chicago’s low-income seniors. Your gift to H.O.M.E. will provide emergency home repairs, take seniors grocery shopping, help others move to a new home, and create a safe, affordable home and community for seniors, families and college age young people.
We accomplished a lot in 2015! Our work would not be possible without our generous donors. Not only will your gift help seniors in Chicago it will bring us closer to reaching our goal of raising $150,000 by December 31!
